Restrictions on Information

The Freedom of Information Act (2021 Revision) promotes transparency in public authorities while protecting confidential and sensitive information. The Act does not remove an individual’s right to privacy or confidentiality. Personal data and other protected information will not be disclosed to persons who are not entitled to receive it.

The Poinciana Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) will make every reasonable effort to provide the information requested. However, certain records may be withheld or redacted where disclosure could cause harm or where the information is protected under the exemptions provided in the Freedom of Information Act. These exemptions may apply, for example, to:

  • Personal and sensitive personal data
  • Medical or health records
  • Confidential information provided by third parties
  • Law enforcement or regulatory investigations
  • Information affecting national security or public safety
  • Legally privileged or commercially sensitive information

Where information cannot be released, PRC will explain the reason for the refusal or redaction and provide details of your right to request an internal review or appeal the decision in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
